CCP removing EVE: Valkyrie's VR requirement with Warzone

However VR and regular players will be facing off against each other.

Playful, another VR startup headed by Paul Bettner, also pursued the same strategy.

It's very interesting to see one of VR's flagship games make headset support optional, and we wonder what drove the decision.

World's First native VR AAA game.

"If you can play first-person shooters, you can pilot one of EVE: Valkyrie -Warzone's fantastic ships", said Andrew Willans, Lead Game Designer at CCP's Newcastle Studio. CCP made the game at its Newcastle, England, studio.

EVE: Valkyrie - Warzone will be available on September 26th for free to existing EVE: Valkyrie owners on either PS4 or PC.

In some ways, it's a pretty smart re-use of assets created for VR games.

Warzone will replace the base game.

In Warzone, we've simplified EVE: Valkyrie's previously complex in-game economy with the removal of Gold and the reduction of surplus Silver. But the company can take some of the pressure off by adapting the game to the larger 2D audience. "Not having access to VR hardware will no longer hold gamers back from diving weapons-first into intense and highly competitive space combat with friends".

The most startling of changes is that EVE: Valkyrie is no longer a VR exclusive title.

EVE: Valkyrie - Warzone introduces a next-generation fleet of iconic ships -including the new Covert class ship, "Shadow" - each one with their own distinctive role to play in battle.

Ditching the VR requirement is obviously the big hook here, but the Warzone expansion will also usher in a new "modular progression system" that will enable greater flexibility in ship upgrades, add two new maps and a new game mode, and a new reward system with a range of personalization options. There will also be new weekly Wormholes to fight for, where established reality is twisted for a fresh gameplay experience. For those who don't know, this is the spinoff game from Eve Online where players are put in control of fighter ship with the aim of destroying incoming enemies.
