Overwatch to receive new map and animated short at Gamescom

Two days later, on Wednesday, August 23, Blizzard will treat audiences to the new Overwatch short on its main stage at the event.

Blizzard has just released their full Gamescom Schedule, and it's potentially much more revealing than just telling you where to be and when, depending on how close you're willing to read its many Overwatch-related entries. Eastern, Blizzard will be unveiling a "special preview video of all the playable content" it'll be showcasing at Gamescom, which includes the brand-new Overwatch map, according to Blizzard's most recent blog post. Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan has mentioned a new map would be coming and that it would be based on the childhood home of Widowmaker, aka Amelie Guillard LaCroix.

New details on the upcoming 7.3 patch on Wednesday, August 23.

Our full schedule of activities is now available on, and you'll find an overview of each game below.

We have limited information on the new map, but some fans expect that it might be Junkrat themed.

A new hero will be announced on Monday, August 21.

Last year, the team also showed an animated short with The Last Bastion. The upcoming gamescom 2017 short marks the first since Sombra's "Infiltration" was released a year ago, and by past remarks made by Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan, it's perhaps the start of an avalanche of new shorts.

Overwatch FX Artist Rachel Day will be presenting her work on the making of Doomfist live on Friday.

Hearthstone players can enjoy an early look at new Fireside Gathering features during gamescom, where they'll join forces in a whole new kind of Fireside Brawl: a group raid against the Lich King.

WoW European Championship Finals take place throughout the event.

Blizzard booth visitors will be able to get some hands-on play time with our latest Hero-details will be revealed in our Monday preview video.

Overwatch is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Of course, there's the Blizzard cosplay contest, too.
