Raiders' Sean Smith Charged With Assault

Smith is accused of attacking his sister's boyfriend during a July 4 party in Pasadena, Calif.

Smith allegedly beat and then stomped on the victim's head near the corner of Arroyo Parkway and Colorado Boulevard early in the morning of July 4, the prosecutor said.

He is now playing for the Oakland Raiders, The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office says Smith was charged with assault and battery in connection with a July 4, 2017 incident. Smith and the Raiders are scheduled to host the Rams in a preseason game on Saturday. A warrant was filed on August 16.

Smith's lawyer, Daniel Rosenberg, spoke with NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Smith was taken into custody at 2 p.m. local time on Thursday, according to USA Today.

In 2013 Smith signed three-year, $18 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, $11 million guaranteed. Smith pleaded guilty in 2015 to a driving under the influence charge in Kansas City and was sentenced to two years of probation.

His bail was set at $80,000 and his first court appearance is scheduled for September 29.

If convicted Smith could serve seven years in jail, per TMZ Sports.

The Raiders and the National Football League have not commented.
