GST returns filing deadline extended

GST returns filing deadline extended

The Union ministry of finance has extended the last date of filing GST return to August 28 for those businessmen who have Input tax credit (ITC) pending.

The cut-off for filing maiden GST returns for July was scheduled to end on August 20.

Traders on Saturday complained that the GST portal was not working, making it hard for them to file returns.

In the evening, the GST Implementation Committee, consisting of state and Centre officers, made a decision to extend the last date for payment of the GST for July to August 25.

"In order not to face any last moment technological difficulty in submission of returns, all taxpayers are requested to kindly file their return well before 25th / 28th of August 2017 and not wait for the last date", the ministry said.

Moreover, flood-hit states of Eastern and North-Eastern India states have also pleaded to extend the last date for filing of GST Returns.

Form 3B is a special summary return introduced for July and August months.

Earlier in the day industry experts said the government needs to extend the deadline as too many traders could not file returns due to technical glitches. Jammu and Kashmir has also requested for extension in GST Return deadline because of late passing of their GST Ordinance. Some technical glitches are also experienced by last minute return filers.

If media reports to be believed, the official website stopped working since noon 12 pm today.

The Cait demanded the government to extend the date. On one side our businesses are witnessing worst ever slump due to the new taxation system and on the other hand the complex and confusing procedures of filing returns are making matters worse.
