But issued a recall after discovering the certification of safety was questionable. They were supposedly advertised by the manufacturer as certified-safe viewing devices, but Dutch Bros. now says "further investigation has led us to question this certification".

However, another Facebook user defended Dutch Bros., writing: "Better then them letting you use them and your daughter goes blind".

The chain, which has over 260 locations in seven states, is urging people to return them for a free drink of their choice. Another wrote: "Pisses me off getting up at 4 in morning waiting in line to get these for my kids and they are unsafe thank you for the warning but this was all we had to watch it now we cant".

Dutch Bros is offering a free drink to make up of the mistake of providing unreliable eye protection meant to help people experience a once in a generation event.

Dutch Bros Coffee issued a statement late Sunday night recalling solar eclipse glasses they handed out earlier in the day.

The most salient takeaway was in all caps: "DO NOT USE THEM TO VIEW THE ECLIPSE". "We apologize for your inconvenience".
