Barcelona take legal action against Neymar for alleged breach of contract

The club also demanded that Neymar pay back the sum he received when he extended his contract a year ago, given that the Brazil forward has now paid his 222 million euros ($261 million) buy-out clause to join Paris Saint-Germain, reports Efe.

The Brazil global made the move to the French club after they met his buyout clause earlier this month.

The Spanish club are demanding that Neymar return an unspecified bonus payment for signing an improved Barca contract a year ago, plus €8.5m in damages and 10 per cent interest on the total.

Neymar put pen to paper on a new five-year deal at Camp Nou last October, and in addition to the bonus he was paid at the time, he was due to receive €26m more this summer.

It comes after Neymar threatened to report his former club to Federation Internationale de Football Association over their refusal to pay a loyalty bonus due to him this summer in light of his switch to PSG.

Barcelona have also withheld a €26 million bonus due to Neymar for signing the renewal to his contract previous year.

Marco Verratti was sent off for PSG midway through the second half and Toulouse at one point came back to 3-2, but they were ultimately blown away by the world's most expensive player.

Josep Vives, a spokesman for the club, said on 4 August: "The player hasn't fulfilled his contract with the club. given that breach the club will not pay this renewal bonus".

'I had four very happy years there, but Barca deserve much better. I'm very sad with them.

"For me, they are not the people who should be there, for the direction of Barca", said Neymar.

Despite securing the massive fee for Neymar, Barcelona are struggling to replace him before the transfer window closes. "I have a lot of friends there", he added.
