Barcelona to sue PSG star Neymar for €8.5m over bonus renewal

Josep Vives, a spokesman for the club, said on 4 August: "The player hasn't fulfilled his contract with the club. given that breach the club will not pay this renewal bonus".

The Catalans are seeking to receive "8.5m euros (£7.8m) in damages, and an additional 10% in interest".

"The club also asks that Paris Saint-Germain assumes the payment of these amounts in the event that the player is not able to take charge".

The lawsuit was submitted on August 11 to the Labour Tribunal in Barcelona. "This legal defence will be carried out following the established procedures with the competent authorities without entering into any verbal arguments with the player".

Following the transfer, Barcelona announced the club was withholding a further 26 million euro (£23 million) loyalty bonus from the player.

Speculation regarding Neymar's future began early in the summer but it seemed as if the 25-year-old would be staying at the Nou Camp after Barcelona defender Gerard Pique posted a photo of the pair together, indicating that he would stay in Spain.

"Barca deserve much better and the whole world knows it".

Neymar has made a stunning start to his time in Ligue 1, scoring three times in his first two games, but on Tuesday Barca released a statement confirming they were suing the forward for at least €8.5m.

The lawsuit was made public two days after the heralded goal-scorer criticized the club's directors following PSG's 6-2 win over Toulouse on Sunday.

"For me, they are not the people who should be there, for the direction of Barca", said Neymar.
