The Secret Service also investigated a unattended package near the White House.

Construction crews and reporters were evacuated from the area and redirected to the James S. Brady briefing room by authorities.

A reporter at the White House tweets that the lockdown has been lifted.

The Secret Service gave the all-clear just after 2:00 p.m. EST.

A Secret Service spokesman said no further information was available.

President Donald Trump was not at the White House at the time of the lockdown.

The incident comes a few minutes after police found a suspicions package at 1:10 p.m. on the Rotunda steps of the U.S. Capitol.
