Fellow NBA rookies also think very highly of the 19-year-old forward, with 39 players believing Tatum will have the best career of the draft class, according to the NBA's annual rookie survey.

But while Ball was a big focus of numerous players in the survey, Dennis Smith Jr. was at or near the top of several categories as well. He was one of the standout players during Summer League in July.

Lonzo Ball was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.

Nonetheless, if Smith Jr. does receive Rookie of the Year, he will only be the second Maverick to win the honor.

Recently, NBA.com conducted a survey of the 2017 rookie class in NY to gauge their feelings of their peers.

"Only once have the rookies correctly predicted the Rookie of the Year". Lonzo Ball of the L.A. Lakers finished second with 20 percent of the votes. This year, Philadelphia traded up to draft Markelle Fultz No. 1 for the same reason.

In other voting categories, Utah's Donovan Mitchell was voted as the "biggest steal" in the draft based on where he was selected.

Smith was phenomenal in the Las Vegas Summer League, posting averages of 17.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists in six games.

In another category, rookies were asked which rookie was the biggest steal at their particular spot in the draft.

Smith spent one year at North Carolina State before being taken 9th overall by the Mavs. That was back in 2007 when Kevin Durant won it. He was named most athletic in a landslide, earning 43.6 percent of the vote. Last season, former Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Kris Dunn received the majority of votes from fellow rookies.
