AIADMK general council meeting today

In his plaint, Vetrivel, who supports now sidelined member TTV Dinakaran, sought to stay the meeting on the ground that the organisers could not call the said meeting under the banner of AIADMK.

Edappadi K Palaniswami camp is expected to take resolutions against Sasikala which implies to the decision taken by her will be considered invalid.

Hearing the petition, a single judge not only dismissed a petition of Vetrivel but also imposed a fine of Rs 100,000 on the loyalist of party deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran.

Earlier on Monday, a Bengaluru court had stayed the meeting in response to a petition by V. Pugazhendi from the Dhinakaran faction.

"Palaniswami does not have any power or any authority to call such a meeting", he said in his plea.

In his suit, the MLA sought a permanent injunction restraining Palaniswamy and deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam from using the name AIADMK (Amma) and AIADMK (Puratchi Talaivi Amma) in any manner and calling the general council meeting.

According to him, there are two views on a resolution to expressly dismiss Sasikala from the party post.

A crucial general council meeting of AIADMK has been called on Tuesday which will decide the fate of V K Sasikala in the party and how she would be eased out from the post of general secretary. "So, the general council (convened on Tuesday) is legal and we have followed all rules while convening the meeting", Jayakumar told reporters on Monday morning.

He said all council members from the time of the then general secretary and chief minister J Jayalalithaa would be attending.

"If the Chief Minister is not changed, we are prepared to bring this government down", Dinakaran said.

In the 235-member assembly, there are 234 members, including one nominated member without voting rights.

"The ruling party has the support of only 114 legislators", Stalin said.

"There is no general secretary now...we don't have (a) general secretary now", he shot back when reporters pointed to him that Dhinakaran camp maintains that geceral Council can not be convened without the approval of the General Secretary (V.K. Sasikala).
