Hodgson confirms imminent Palace arrival as De Boer replacement

Roy Hodgson returned to soccer management for the first time since leaving his job as England coach a year ago, taking over at Premier League struggler Crystal Palace on Tuesday as a replacement for the fired Frank de Boer.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Tuesday, Hodgson said he had yet to sign a contract but was "pleased" to be returning to football.

Former England boss Hodgson arrives at Selhurst Park with Palace in the drop zone after De Boer failed to pick up a single point in his four Premier League matches in charge.

"This is very much the club of my boyhood and I remember in my youth watching the club from the terraces at the Holmesdale Road end which gave me such fond memories".

"It is very rewarding to find myself here now, in different times, as the Palace manager at a club that I have always loved and admired with a huge potential", he added.

The 70-year-old - who is the oldest man ever to be appointed manager by a Premier League club - has previously managed Blackburn Rovers, Fulham, Liverpool and West Bromwich Albion in the top-flight.

"We are the club of south London, with an enormously large fan base".

"It's a good day for me, I'm very happy and looking forward to hopefully getting down to work and trying to help us get some points in the league and climb up the table".

Palace lost its first four league games of the season without scoring, with its players failing to adapt to a more expansive style of play under De Boer following his arrival in the off-season.

Crystal Palace are now rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table having lost all four of their opening games.

Hodgson's last job was as manager of England.

He was also Switzerland coach, taking them to the 1994 World Cup as well as the Euro 96 finals in England, and spent two years at Inter Milan whom he led to the 1997 UEFA Cup final.
