Barcelona Ask Philippe Coutinho to Refuse to Face Sevilla in Champions League

Klopp said it was important for both goalkeepers to have pitch time to ensure standards were maintained throughout the season but he refused to label either player as his number-one choice. He came back long flight, 15 minutes here, 15 minutes there, three weeks without training.

There are footballing reasons to start Philippe Coutinho against Sevilla on Wednesday, with the player having played 30 minutes for Brazil twice over the recent global break and while perhaps not ready to go the full 90 minutes at least ready to play 60 should Jürgen Klopp decide to start him.

Klopp's side were already 1-0 down to a Sergio Aguero goal when Sadio Mané saw red in the closing stages of the first half for a high and unsafe challenge on Ederson, which resulted in the City goalkeeper being stretchered off.

The Argentinian, though, is wary: "Liverpool are a great team and Saturday's defeat doesn't take anything away from them".

Pizarro missed the weekend win over Eibar with a chipped tooth but will be back in action on Wednesday and raring to go ahead of the biggest challenge of his short European career to date. As seen in the home leg against Hoffenheim, his movement also creates spaces for Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah to utilize with a devastating effect. If Liverpool manage to beat Sevilla well, a top-of-the-group finish becomes more probable, which could mean progress in the competition.

However, the Premier League side held firm and rebuffed all offers for their playmaker.

Neil Mellor is expecting Liverpool to take revenge on Sevilla for their Europa League final loss against the Spaniards.

This is a new game and Liverpool have the squad to cause Sevilla all sorts of problems later this week, especially with the Anfield crowd behind them. Jesus Navas returns to England after being released by Manchester City earlier this summer.

"I think they will be looking forward to putting it right". These two factors, a better team than Sevilla, and a buzzing Anfield should propel Liverpool to a victory.
