Building big-game pedigree key to Man City's title bid: De Bruyne

Building big-game pedigree key to Man City's title bid: De Bruyne

10-man Liverpool suffered a first Premier League loss of the season as they went down 5-0 at Manchester City on Saturday lunchtime.

Mane's boot struck Ederson's face while both players were going for the ball during City's eventual 5-0 win over their top-four rivals, leading to Ederson requiring lengthy treatment on the field before being stretchered off. He was taken to the medical centre at the Etihad campus to check for fractures to his cheek, but appeared later by the City substitutes' bench.

Liverpool had conceded a goal too easily when Kevin De Bruyne had space to hit a ball straight through the defence for Sergio Aguero to finish.

"I'm so happy for his performance, not just for today but the other days in this period". "That changed the game and we know it".

City had stuttered through their first three games but hit their stride against the Reds, albeit with the visitors having to play almost an hour following Sadio Mane's sending off in the 37th minute.

Mane caught City goalkeeper Ederson on the jaw with a high foot as he chased a through ball.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Klopp described Mane's red card as "very unlucky", and said that the winger was "very, very, very upset".

"You can win games like this, but we had no chance against City with one man down".

Brighton scored its first top-flight goals in 34 years in a 3-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion.

"Red card has spoilt this game - but that's not Jon Moss fault - his position was fantastic to see the challenge and show red card", he added later.

"We spoke at half-time and said: don't let them run". But can we play better against City with one man down?

Jesus then had a header from a curling De Bruyne cross from the left ruled out for offside, before having an assist moments later. City have a very offensive line-up but they have adapted to the speed we have in our team. All three up front were not really involved.

The fourth goal came when Sane used the overlapping Mendy to his left and got on the end of the low return pass.

Jose Mourinho's side drew level at the bet365 Stadium as Henrikh Mkhitaryan's corner in first half stoppage-time was headed goalwards by Paul Pogba before deflecting into the net off Marcus Rashford.
