Counting of votes underway

According to reports, the counting of the DUSU elections will be held tomorrow from 8.30 am.

Delhi University has not yet announced the date for counting of votes. In the college union elections, which were held simultaneously with the DUSU elections, Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) won all the posts in Laxmi Bai College, Vivekananda College, and Shri Venkateshwara College. The plea was not opposed by Tuseed's counsel following which the court passed the orders of declaring the results. So, stay tune for all the latest updates. The High Court also pulled up the Delhi Police for not taking action or arresting the violators for the offence of defacing public properties which attracts a maximum jail term of 10 years.

The main contestants for the DUSU presidential post are ABVP's Rajat Choudhary, NSUI's Rocky Tusheed, AISA's Parul Chauha, independent candidate Raja Choudury and independent Alka. The elections are for the academic year 2017-2018.

Summary: Babbar alleging violations of election rules and Lyngdoh Committee norms allegedly by the ABVP and Congress' NSUI.

"The result for the post of the president be declared as per schedule".

BJP Backed ABVP won the DUSU elections past year, and they want to keep their dominance still. Justice Kaur, however, made it clear that election outcome will be subject to its final decision in the matter where Tuseed has challenged the University Election Commission's order rejecting his nomination.

Already, the first round counting of the votes is started. Polling for the DUSU elections in morning schools ended at 2 pm and voting reserved for students of evening colleges commenced at 3 pm and it continued till 7.30 pm.

In doing so, Justice Indermeet Kaur modified an earlier order in which she had asked the varsity not to declare the poll results and keep them sealed.

A bipolar affair historically, the election this year has seen the rise of another student group, the radical left AISA, which has found many supporters among students after the brawl at Ramjas College in February and turned the usually bilateral contest between the ABVP and NSUI into a multi-cornered fight. Finally, Delhi University Student Union Election result will be out in the afternoon.
