Dead, 120 Evacuated From Hollywood, Florida Nursing Home

Hurricane Irma's devastation continues to affect Floridians, now leaving five people dead at a nursing home.

Five Hollywood nursing home residents died Wednesday morning after they fell ill in a building left without air conditioning after Irma blasted South Florida, according to authorities at the scene. The facility was being evacuated, but it was unclear when the order to clear the site was put in effect. Sharief said there are no details about the cause of the deaths.

The deaths, if confirmed as storm-related, would take the death toll in Florida from the hurricane to at least 17. A portable generator was still running inside their home.

Sharief said two people died at the facility and three more died at a nearby hospital, WPLG reports.

Following Irma, however, temperatures in Florida got hot and humid.

Across the state, the explanations for the outages were visible alongside the road.

The facility itself has power, the individual said.

"I can tell you from driving around you see lines down all over the place", Albers said.
