Downsizing Trailer - Matt Damon & Kristen Wiig get small in Alexander Payne's latest

The footage introduces a world where humans are given the option to shrink in size. It gives us a odd, speculative playground in which to grapple with our present-day fears about economic and environmental collapse. The process is irreversible, but there's the added benefit that the shrunken get to live like suburban kings and queens. The film takes the premise of how much better our lives could be if we were to miniaturize (think dollhouse mansions, conflict-free diamonds for a couple of dollars...) and sets it within the context of being a solution to overpopulation and climate change.

The movie, which stars Matt Damon, Kristen Wiig, Christoph Waltz and Jason Sudeikis, is out in the U.S. in December, and should arrive in the United Kingdom not long afterwards. What if we told you there would be not one, but three Cheesecake Factory locations?

Along with Damon and Wiig, the cast includes Christoph Waltz, Alec Baldwin, Neil Patrick Harris, Sudeikis, Laura Dern, and Bruce Willis.

"Downsizing" recently premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where it received a mostly positive reception and, in quite a few cases, ecstatic praise.

The sci-fi comedy drama comes from director Alexander Payne, who has been nominated for six Academy Awards, and scored two wins for adapted screenplay.

We'll have to wait until the December 22 release to find out if the newfound freedom of living small comes with any unintended pitfalls or if the cautionary tale is for us regular-sized folks who are still living too large.
