Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Just a few days after being crowned the frontrunner to direct Star Wars: Episode IX, Rian denied that he was not in the running to direct the sequel to Episode VIII.

During a press event in Japan over the weekend, Johnson announced that Gordon-Levitt is set to make a unique appearance in the second film of the galactic trilogy, The Last Jedi. The largely bitter reception of the prequel trilogy led to The Force Awakens: a movie completely unlike the prequels and far more similar to the adored original trilogy. And if Rogue One: A Star Wars Story confirmed the public's enthusiasm with a little over one billion last December, Disney has a vested interest to maintain firm control of the brand and to minimize the risks.

Abrams takes over from Colin Trevorrow, who left the project last week, with Lucasfilm and parent company Disney citing creative differences as the reason for his departure.

The actor famous for playing Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars films has hilariously endeared himself to a legion of football fans courtesy of an accidental tweet.

Star Wars is the biggest franchise on earth (and galaxies far, far away) so it's safe to say that EVERYONE wants to be a part of it - even in cameo form.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be released on the 13th of December in France.

And now Episode IX is undergoing rewrites, has seen Colin Trevorrow walk off into the sunset, and has a brand new director and a seven month delay. Step outside of the box and you will be replaced.

"It was never in the plan for me to direct Episode 9, so I don't know what's going to happen with it", he said. So long as it's better than the Star Wars Holiday Special, there's nothing wrong with Star Wars during the holidays.
