The 83-year-old TV host received the terrifying news during a routine visit to the doctors, where he was told that "something looks amusing". Part of my checkup is the chest X-ray and that is the protocol. "Let's do a CAT scan, ' so they do a CAT scan, and they say, 'Let's do a PET scan"... "They tested it. They said, 'You are fine.' It was stage 1", Larry continued. Talking to US Weekly, the star explained that after a chest x-ray, his doctor said that something wasn't quite right: "They said the spot looked pretty small". The tumor was malignant but King said it was found at such an early stage that his doctor told him he was lucky.

Never one to take a break for too long, King returned to work after just two weeks of recovery. He added, "It was fun to see where that spot was and there is no spot now".

Despite giving up smoking in the 1980s, doctors told Larry that the tobacco he inhaled was "still related" to his cancer.

Since the diagnosis, King has had 20 percent of the affected lung removed. "I feel good, I get my checkups, I stay healthy, and I'm active", King told Us. "They are all painless". "I have no plans to retire", King said.

Throughout the years, King has endured various health issues such as a heart attack, type 2 diabetes and was diagnosed with prostate cancer in his 70s, which was treated with radiation. "I will probably die on the air".
