Leipzig to offer Werner new deal to ward off Real Madrid interest

The Telegraph reported last month that Tottenham Hotspur are still keen on a player they have tracked since 2014 while The Sun claimed that Real Madrid have joined Liverpool in the race.

He has no release clause in his deal, which will expire only in 2020. "I've been doing well with Leipzig but it's clear that I'd like to play for a big club in the future, although maybe Leipzig will become a big club soon", he added.

But any club wishing to prise the 21-year-old away from the Bundesliga side may have their work cut out or pay through the roof for the privilege as Werner is under long-term contract and can not be bought for a fixed fee, meaning Leipzig hold all the negotiating power.

Already scoring four goals this season, Werner has carried on his form from last term and admits that his association with RB Leipzig has been a fruitful one for him.

"In Spain there are a maximum of three clubs with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid".

Low's decision to select Werner for the Confederations Cup was rewarded with three goals and two assists from the forward.

"FC Bayern is also a big club, but for me it is not a topic that I am concerned with".

"We play in the Champions League", Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff told Sky Germany, "We offer Timo the chance to make the next step".

"Of course, I look at the offer [of a new contract]".

RB Leipzig, though, could be reluctant to sell another of their key players given Guinea worldwide Keita will move to Liverpool at the end of the 2017-18 season.

Werner is expected to start for RB against Monaco in the Champions League tonight.

"And I am not one who has to go [to another club], where I may earn much more, if I can stay with a club where I develop better and know what I have".
