Nigeria elected VP of UN World Tourism Organization General Assembly

The bi-annual event will discuss how to advance the contribution of tourism to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and define the actions of the Organization for the period 2018-2019. He will also give a speech during the first conference of the assembly and attend tree planting ceremony which is held by tourism ministers and authorities of participating countries to commemorate the global year of sustainable development.

The Sultanate, represented by the Ministry of Tourism, is participating in the twenty-second session of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organisation (WTO), the meeting of the Middle East Committee and the Committee on Tourism and Sustainability held in Chinese City of Chengdu. "Besides being the fourth most-visited country in the world, with 59 million worldwide arrivals in 2016, China is also the largest domestic tourism market, with 4.4 billion trips made within its borders", he added.

Over 1,000 Delegates will gather at the UNWTO General Assembly. He said Georgia is a very good example of how tourism can transform a small city into an global destination. He further noted that 6 million jobs related to tourism have been created in 2016 in China, particularly for women, people with disabilities and rural communities.

"We are pleased to participate in the 22nd World Tourism Organisation General Assembly, which aims to achieve the long term vision of the kingdom's tourism sector under the guidance of the wise leadership".

The Iranian Vice President underlined Iran's interest in Georgia's tourist potential.
