Philippines: storm Maring leaves four dead, six missing

Malacañang on Tuesday suspended work in government offices in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon due to inclement weather. There could still be more floods and landslides in these areas.

Meanwhile, Typhoon Lannie, which was located at 655km east northeast of Basco, Batanes, has maintained its strength while moving in a west northwest direction and has no direct effect to the country. It was moving west northwest at 22 kph.

Number coding in Makati City has also been suspended.

Lannie is expected to exit tomorrow. In Pampanga, classes were suspended in all levels in Angeles, Guagua, Mabalacat, Magalang, Mexico, Minalin, Porac, and San Fernando.

The NDRRMC could not immediately confirm the death of the baby boy and Oreta.

Marasigan said the agency received reports of flooding in Quezon, including Pitogo town where 22 bus passengers were rescued. She said the two took shelter in a safe area and are accounted for.

At least four people have died and 13 are missing after tropical depression Maring brought flooding and chaos across Luzon.

Residents in coastal areas in the provinces of Laguna, Quezon and Batangas were evacuated.

Civil defence officer Ronnie Mateo said: "Our local authorities had continuously warned them that their place was really prone to landslides but they insisted on staying". He said the province also experienced power outage.
