Russell Westbrook signs 10-year extension with Jordan brand

According to Nick DePaula of ESPN, Westbrook has just agreed with Jordan's sports apparel brand to be an athlete endorser of the sports outfitter for 10 more years.

The contract will be retroactively applied to this past season, in which Westbrook averaged 31.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 10.4 assists. The Wasserman Media Group and Westbrook's agent, Thad Foucher, negotiated the shoe contract.

The company wanted to make sure Westbrook was committed long-term to the Jordan Brand before going into full development with these projects themed around the reigning NBA MVP. At 28-years-old, Westbrook is just hitting his prime years, making it very timely for the Jordan Brand to lock down the UCLA product. His on-court signature sneaker is being billed as "unlike anything that Jordan Brand has done before, " which is absolutely fitting given what the world has come to expect from his fashion sense. As he has continued to be the face for the Air Jordan game shoe each season, the brand launched two off-court-geared silhouettes, dubbed the Westbrook 0.1 and 0.2, but held off on designing him a performance signature shoe for the hardwood.

The agreement with the popular shoe company is reportedly the most lucrative endorsement deal ever by any Jordan athlete. DePaula described said shoe as "unlike anything that Jordan Brand brand has done before".

Westbrook's first signature shoe is now in the works and is expected to be "flashy" and "unlike anything that Jordan Brand has done before", DePaula reports. Foundation, which will aim to launch even more "reading rooms" and other educational and athletic initiatives for kids in Westbrook's two home states of Oklahoma City and Southern California.
