Seven Arsenal stars to sit out Europa League opener

Seven Arsenal stars to sit out Europa League opener

Wenger does not believe playing Thursday to Sunday this season will damage his side's Premier League campaign.

And he looks set to return to the starting line-up for tomorrow's Euro clash with German side Cologne.

Cologne are now bottom of the Bundesliga after three rounds of the season. The Blues took just 10 points from their first six games of the Premier League after drawing against Swansea City before suffering two humiliating defeats to Liverpool and Arsenal. They've lost all three matches, and they've only scored once in the process.

Manchester United won the Europa League last season to qualify for this year's Champions League.

Petr Cech, Laurent Koscielny, Danny Welbeck, Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka were all missing from training on Wednesday morning, rested as Wenger prioritises Premier League football over Uefa's second-tier competition.

Arsenal's first match in the Europa League is nearly upon us.

Rather than being injured, the seven absentees are thought to be resting.

In the end, only Alexandre Lacazette - who is now the club's record signing - and Sead Kolasinac (free) arrived at the Emirates, despite the fact the Gunners missed out on a Champions League place, but Bellerin thinks there's more to the game than just buying the big names.

Sanchez could play as he looks to improve his fitness while Wilshere may make his first Arsenal appearance in 383 days following last season's loan spell at Bournemouth. Not injured but not expected to be involved.
