Despite dropping points for the first time this season, United still ended the day top of the table with 10 points from the first four games, something Mourinho was keen to stress afterwards.

And Matic, who won the title with Chelsea last season, told MUTV: "If we want to be champions, we have to win games like this because in these games, if you win, you are champion".

"To be honest, it's always a tough game when you come to this stadium". Some teams have more resources than others and it's how you use them.

"I'm not satisfied with a point because we were the team closer to winning". We had the lead in the second half but they scored a goal from the corner kick.

United's poor defensive display may have been the talking point for many, but the lack a of handshake between the two managers after the game has also raised some eyebrows. "I'm happy that we are still there, and we'll continue to work hard to stay there until the end of the season".

Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial have all been amongst the goals, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan has five assists to his name.

"Yeah, it's great to see them score again and they are very important players for us", added Matic.

"I'm not sure why he didn't want to shake my hand".

"One team tried to win, one team tried to get the point but they fought hard to get that point".

The Potters themselves have made a strong start to the campaign, particularly at home where they have beaten Arsenal in the league and Rochdale in the Carabao Cup.
