WFAN's Carton To Fight Charges

WFAN's Carton To Fight Charges

Last week, WFAN morning show host Craig Carton was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation on fraud charges, eventually earning himself an indefinite suspension from CBS Radio.

Carton was taken into custody by federal officials at his Manhattan home last Wednesday morning, and faces federal fraud charges.

Carson issued a statement following his arrest on charges that he took part in a Ponzi scheme, where money meant to be used to buy tickets to sports and entertainment events instead was funneled to other accounts and businesses.

The New York Post reported last week that federal authorities are alleging Carton and a business partner received $3.6 million from investors in a fraudulent ticket-sale scheme, and that Carton collected an additional $2 million from investors. He is free on bail.

"Unfortunately, the unfounded legal issues now plaguing me will only be a distraction to everyone at WFAN and the show I helped build", Carton said in his statement. "With that in mind, I have submitted my resignation to the station and they accepted".

Carton and former National Football League quarterback Boomer Esiason had co-hosted the station's morning show since 2007.

Carton and the New Jersey man were each released on $500,000 bond after an initial court appearance last week.

'For 10 years I've had the great privilege of showing up to work every day at my dream job, ' Carton said in a statement. At the time, Carton's lawyer, Robert C. Gottlieb, told News 4 the allegations were a "gross misunderstanding". "I have nothing but love and respect for my co-host, the show and the entire CBS Radio family and I've always tried to represent them in the best possible light". "There will come a time when I will be able to speak directly about the case and I hope our listeners will be there". Phil Simms will co-host alongside Boomer Esiason Thursday, and future co-hosts will be announced as needed.

Carton has hosted his talk-radio show with Esiason on WFAN since 2007.
