At least four killed in traffic collision in British south Gloucestershire

A lorry travelling on the southbound carriageway reportedly drove through a central reservation and into oncoming traffic, hitting several vehicles, including a motorbike before ending up in a ditch on the side of the road.

South Western Ambulance Service Trust say a critical care team and a dozen ambulances are the scene of the crash dealing with the wounded.

The motorway is closed in both directions after the crash which happened at around 2.30pm on Saturday.

"Sadly, at least four people have died", Avon and Somerset Police said in a statement.

There were additionally three miles of "caught activity" inside the police cordon, it included.

A number of diversions are in place.

It is the second fatal crash on the same stretch of the M5 this week.
