South Korea performs missile drill

"The Secretary-General calls on the DPRK leadership to cease further testing, comply with the relevant Security Council resolutions, and allow space to explore the resumption of honest dialogue on denuclearisation", Guterres said in a statement, adding that he would discuss it "with all concerned parties in the margins of the upcoming" U.N. General Assembly.

Kim will accompany President Moon Jae-in for a visit to NY for the annual U.N. General Assembly meeting next week.

One of the missiles flew 250 kilometers - that is, the distance to the establishment of the Pyongyang polygon from where the ballistic missile was launched earlier this morning, and hit the test set.

South Korea's military said it conducted a missile test of its own in response to north Korea's latest missile launch.

"We likewise continue to urge the DPRK to abide by the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, as the Philippines remains committed to complying with the same", said Cayetano.

The Security Council also reiterated the importance of maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in north-east Asia at large, and expressed its commitment to a peaceful, diplomatic and political solution to the situation, welcoming efforts by Council members, as well as other States, to facilitate a peaceful and comprehensive solution through dialogue.

Currency traders also brushed off the latest missile fired by North Korea in a volatile day of trading on Friday.

The Philippine official plans to consult with fellow foreign ministers in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on what they can do to reduce tensions in Korea.

Friday's missile launch was the 13th ballistic missile test in North Korea this year.

"Our Embassy in Tokyo and Consulate General in Osaka are closely monitoring the situation and are regularly providing updates to the Filipino community", he said.

"Our kababayans (countrymen) in Japan must closely monitor the Embassy's announcements and to update information on their whereabouts and contact details with the embassy or Consulate General", he said.
