That's because Apple's iPhone Upgrade Program needs to run a credit check for you to be eligible to upgrade to the new iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus when pre-orders open today (iPhone X pre-orders open October 27). This means that you'll be able to upgrade to your next iPhone without any additional payments or anything like that.

For their added expenditure iPhone owners, will receive relative clemency for two incidences of accidental damage.

Then, either join online or in store, let them know what your phone carrier is, back up your iPhone's data, and be ready to provide a credit card and other identifying information about yourself. Older non-plus models will still cost $129 for the warranty.

The iPhone X is easily the most expensive "regular" smartphone to date. If you're already a member of the iPhone Upgrade Program, Apple has some good news; you can confirm that you're eligible for the upgrade and get those necessary details out of the way before presale starts. All iPhone models will see price jumps of around $20 to $30 for screen damage fixes, although Apple has yet to lock down pricing for its iPhone X.
