Dolphins linebacker Timmons suspended after going AWOL

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins actually filed a missing persons report with several police departments in the Los Angeles area.

During a Wednesday press conference, coach Adam Gase evaded questions about Timmons, saying that "everything dealing with that we're going to keep in house and handle it the way we feel we need to handle it".

"I think every situation's different", Gase said, "I would say that you can be forgiven if the right steps are taken".

Timmons signed a $12 million, two-year deal with Miami in March after 10 seasons with Pittsburgh, where he won a Super Bowl ring in 2009 and made the Pro Bowl in 2014.

One report said Timmons had been travelling to see his baby daughter.

"Be on time and play hard", Gase said. "And, really, I don't have anything to add to that".

Timmons' agent Drew Rosenhaus also declined to provide details on the issue. It's of a personal nature of Lawrence. With the Dolphins given several days off that week, Timmons spent time with former Steelers teammates on their practice field and in the locker room on September 8 before their first game.

Undrafted rookie Chase Allen started in place of Timmons as the Dolphins registered a 19-17 victory.

After the game, Gase would only say that Timmons did not play Sunday due to a coach's decision.

Gase said he would decide later if Timmons is allowed to rejoin the team. He spent his first 10 National Football League seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, recording 677 tackles and 35.5 sacks.

As Schefter reports, Timmons' teammates saw no signs in the preaseason that their starting outside linebacker was dealing with any personal issues before his unusual disappearance over the weekend.
