Atletico's new stadium to host 2019 Champions League final

Atletico's new stadium to host 2019 Champions League final

Metropolitano was the name of Atlético's previous stadium before they moved into the Calderon in 1966, and now the Spanish giants call this incredible stadium their home.

"Madrid's Estadio Metropolitano has been selected to host the 2018/2019 #UCLfinal #UEFAExCo", as a caption of a photo of the stadium.

The Wanda Metropolitano, Atletico Madrid's new home, has been awarded hosting rights for the 2019 UEFA Champions League final.

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin announced during an executive committee meeting on Wednesday in Nyon.

UEFA also revealed the 2019 Europa League final will be played in Baku's Olympic Stadium, after Azerbaijan missed out to Atletico's new home in the Champions League selection process.

Baku's Olympic Stadium will instead stage the Europa League final, while the Besiktas Stadium in Istanbul will stage that year's Super Cup.

It will be the eight time that a European Cup has been settled in Spain; Barcelona 1989 and 1999, Madrid 1957, 1969, 1980, 2010 and once in Sevilla 1986.

It will take place in the 69,870-seater stadium built for the 2015 European Games, where it hosted Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
