Jay-Z Turns Down Super Bowl Halftime Show, NFL Hasn't Finalized Pick

Although no clear indication was given as to why Hov declined, the rapper showed his solidarity with ousted National Football League quarterback Colin Kaepernick last week by dedicating his record "The Story of O.J." to him during his stage performance in NYC.

According to The Source, JAY-Z was recently offered the treasured halftime performance and turned it down flat.

"I want to dedicate this song to Colin Kaepernick tonight..."

The NFL has released a statement responding to the reports, stating that no concrete decision has been made on the halftime show.

When NBC's Pro Football Talk reached out to the NFL, the report wasn't directly shut down.

This wouldn't be the first time an artist rejected a Super Bowl invitation, however.

The 52nd Super Bowl will be held at U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, Minnesota, on February 4, 2018, and will decide the league champion for the 2017 NFL season.

The Super Bowl halftime show has evolved into an elaborate spectacle, in order to keep television viewers around the world engaged when they might otherwise not be during a break in the game. Lady Gaga had the honour of headlining the Super Bowl halftime show this year (17), while JAY-Z's wife, Beyonce, performed in 2013, and again in 2016, when she joined Coldplay and Bruno Mars onstage. When it is time to announce her name we will do it.

Nonetheless, it remains to be seen as to who exactly takes the stage come next year.
