China reiterates calls for S.Korea to remove THAAD

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, argued for a "peaceful resolution" to North Korea's nuclear weapons program and an end to the "vicious cycle" on the Korean peninsula during a meeting in NY on Monday evening, according to a statement from China's foreign ministry released on Tuesday.

Wang made the remarks in talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on Monday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in NY.

Wang made the remarks when he met with his German counterpart, Sigmar Gabriel, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in NY.

China has always upheld the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, and believes Venezuela's government and people have the ability to resolve problems via talks within a legal framework and protect national stability, Wang added.

The global community should turn the pressure of sanctions into a thrust for negotiations at a proper time, create conditions for talks and seize opportunities for dialogue, Wang said.

Russian Federation supports China's proposal for a "dual track" or "suspension-for-suspension" approach to solving tensions.

"Alongside pressure, dialogue is important", Wang was quoted as saying with regard to addressing the North Korean nuclear issue.

Wang also urged that no further countries should seek to acquire nuclear weapons, "whether it is in the north or south of the peninsula, whether it is in Northeast Asia or other parts of the world". There should be no military option.

"Anything that we need now is the denuclearization. We urge DPRK to not to go further on a risky direction", Wang said while addressing the 72nd General Elections of the United Nations.

"And we call upon all parties to play a constructive role in easing tensions".
