Private Jet Crashes Istanbul's Main Airport, Four Wounded

The jet's two pilots, flight attendant stewardess and one passenger were able to make it off the jet on their own.

Sahin said that the plane sped off the runway and caught fire but its occupants were able to climb out of the aircraft themselves.

The jet, registered as TC-KON, crashed after reporting a malfunction as it was taking off, the state-run news agency Anadolu said.

It said the plane had taken off from the airport to fly to the breakaway statelet of northern Cyprus, which is only recognised by Turkey.

Istanbul Airport 'was closed after the incident, later the Turkish Airlines later informed that both runways at the airport were now operational. It went off the runway while landing.

Ataturk is Europe's fifth-busiest airport with more than 60 million passengers choosing to travel from the hub in 2016.
