Xiaomi to add wireless charging support to its Xiaomi Mi 7 flagship

Xiaomi to add wireless charging support to its Xiaomi Mi 7 flagship

Xiaomi has joined the Wireless Power Consortium, the organization behind Qi wireless charging standard, standing alongside biggies like Apple, Samsung, LG and others.

Though the company hasn't officially announced that it has joined the consortium, it has been spotted on the WPC member list (via GSMArena) on the official WPC website.

It is likely that the Xiaomi Mi 7 may arrive with Qi standard wireless charging. Apple joined the consortium in February, and while Xiaomi hasn't made an official announcement, the company is listed on the WPC website as a member.

Once known as China's Apple, Xiaomi is apparently following in Apple's footsteps when it comes to wireless charging. To your Mi 7, she will build something like that, and it would need a new processor Qualcomm 835, which will also be released next year.

We've seen Xiaomi deliver a few handsets with true flagship features.

This is great news since wireless charging has been one of the features that we lamented not seeing from past Xiaomi products, including the recently introduced Mi Mix 2.

The joining of the Wireless Power Consortium makes Xiaomi further ahead in the race of advanced smartphones. The body is the power behind the Qi wireless charging standard. But with companies like Apple and Xiaomi showing interest, this would become a traditional feature in most of the next-generation smartphones. We have no information regarding the other features of the Xiaomi Mi 7 yet, but even if it will be a Mi 6 with wireless charging support and the latest version of Android, it should still be a nice device.

This is an indication that the company may soon come up with a phone with wireless charging to capture markets like India where its phones are much popular.

The Qi system of charging allows users to place their wireless charging enabled device on a charging pad that is connected to a power outlet.
