Acid attacks have always been a problem in parts of South Asia, but have become increasingly commonplace in London in recent years.

Police and paramedics were seen treating injured victims at Stratford tube station and a nearby bus shelter after the horror next to a Westfield shopping centre and the former Olympic Park.

"Wishes for him and the friends who were with him".

Police say at least six people were injured after being sprayed with "a noxious substance" Saturday night at a popular shopping center in London, CNN reports.

There were 431 acid attacks in London a year ago, 398 of which were carried out in Stratford's borough of Newham.

The London Ambulance Service and the Fire Brigade both attended the scene.

The injuries were believed to have been sustained in different locations, with one male arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, police said.

They added that police officers will remain on the scene and a cordon is in place.

Police said the attack is not believed to be linked to terrorism.
