Ataribox to Cost At Least $250 and Ship Next Spring

Announced in June with the claim Atari is "back in the hardware business", the Ataribox is planned to ship out at the beginning of next year, cost at least $250 Dollars, contain an AMD processor, and run on Linux.

"We've chosen to launch Ataribox with Indiegogo given their focus on delivering technology products, and their strong global presence in over 200 countries, allowing us to reach and involve as many Atari fans around the world as possible", Mac adds.

As for technical specifications, Mac said that the console will have a custom AMD processor with Radeon graphics and a Linux-based operating system. That, said the company, will allow users to stream, run applications, scan social media, browse the Web, and listen to music.

The Ataribox will play both classic Atari games as well as new titles, according to the company. It will also come pre-loaded with classic Atari games, though those will be announced at a later date. We don't know if the "current titles" will include ports, remasters, or entirely new IP's, but Atari assured fans they would be announce new games "very soon".

We want you, the Atari community, to be part of this launch.

The Ataribox team said it will launch a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo sometime this fall.

Atari's newest console is a modern take on the popular late 1970s console, the Atari 2600.

The Ataribox is slated for a release in the spring of 2018.
