Chelsea boss Antonio Conte wishes Diego Costa the best at Atletico Madrid

Diego Costa will complete his return to Atletico Madrid in January after the La Liga club announced they had finally reached agreement with Chelsea over a fee.

He joined Chelsea from Atletico in July 2014 for 32 million pounds ($41.2 million at the time) on a five-year deal.

Chelsea included Costa in their submitted Premier League squad list last month in order to give the Spain worldwide a theoretical path back into the first team, but he was omitted from their Champions League squad to avoid him becoming ineligible for Atletico in the competition, and there never appeared to be a realistic prospect that he would play under manager Antonio Conte again.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has shared his opinion on Diego Costa's move from the Blues to Atletico Madrid.

AS too added that Costa would shortly undergo a medical and be officially unveiled in the coming days.

"I'm very happy, I think that it took too long but there was a happy ending", he said.

Costa will begin training with his Atletico teammates immediately, before making his second debut for the club upon their transfer embargo being lifted in January.

Conte laughed off the comments and said he would not pick the striker even if he made himself available, having signed Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid to become his first-choice forward.

Costa's availability had alerted numerous clubs, but he only wanted to go to Atletico to be reunited with their head coach Diego Simeone. However Conte and Chelsea, together with the striker and his agent, Jorge Mendes, agreed Costa could leave that summer.

"I keep a special fondness for the people at Chelsea, one single person (Conte) is not going to sully my image and what I did there". The guys who have the fewest minutes have to show me then that they're growing.
