Imran Khan calls for IB chief's resignation

The election body will review the reply on September 27 and will give its judgment after that, said in its short order.

The petition is being heard by a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar and including Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Umar Ata Bandial.

"This is the substance of the impugned comments of the answering respondent, which has been maliciously distorted by the petitioner".

Abbasi filed the petition in the apex court in May this year, seeking disqualification of PTI chairman Imran Khan and another party leader Jahangir Tareen for tax evasion and concealing details about their assets.

In the hearing, the high court's order regarding the suspension of Imran Khan's arrest orders was presented to the bench by the PTI lawyer.

The ECP adjourned the case till Wednesday (tomorrow) asking the PTI to submit a reply to the fresh contempt plea against Mr Khan. He has pleaded the documents to be made a part of the record of the case.

The ECP had to proceed against Imran as the PTI chairman in a TV interview had reportedly said that his counsel tendered an apology in his personal capacity, and that Khan himself had not apologised. Ahmed Hasan read a fresh application about Imran Khan's most recent contemptuous statement against the ECP made on Sept 20, the day his counsel was busy arguing before the Islamabad High Court about his client's respect for the ECP. Khan argued that the matter should have been settled after the submission of apology.
