London Tower Hill Station Blast Results In Injuries

London's central Tower Hill underground station was evacuated after a phone battery exploded and caused a small fire on Tuesday afternoon.

An explosion has been reported sending passengers fleeing in panic from the District Line. The explosion itself appears to have been rather small, especially given the photos we've seen posted on Twitter.

Reports say that the station has been closed after a low-intensity explosion on a train.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said the blaze was not suspicious and was believed to "have been caused by a mobile phone charger overheating".

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesperson said they were called just before 12.30pm local time.

The station was evacuated and police are now assessing what caused the fire alert, the spokesman said.

According to reports, around five people suffered minor injuries.
