Newborn Puppies Found In Tied-Up Sack In River Expected To Survive

Police said they are looking to speak with a male who was seen on a mountain bike in the area of River Road around the time they believe the puppies were dumped. Police said the animals were tied up in a grain bag and left for dead.

- Police are searching for those responsible for tying up six puppies in a bag and throwing them in a MA river.

The sack was not totally submerged when the kayakers found it, but was on the side of the river and quickly taking on water, Lourie said.

'Uxbridge Animal Control Officer responded to the scene and took possession of the puppies. The puppies were found along a stretch of River Road parallel to the Blackstone River that is mostly occupied by businesses, Blodgett-O'Toole said. The dogs appear to be a lab mix. Lourie said his department has received several inquiries about adopting the puppies, but the animals are not ready for adoption yet.

"I believe as a police chief they had guardian angels looking over them, these kayakers", Lourie said.

The Police Department responsible for the case urges anyone who has any information that could lead to the person who committed the atrocious act to contact Officer Benjamin Smoot at Uxbridge PD.
