Vegas Play of the Day: Vikings at Bears

The Minnesota Vikings had just been shocked by a fake punt by the Chicago Bears in Week 5 during their Monday Night Football game on a play that resulted in special teams scoring a touchdown against them.

That's precisely how it played out.

"The route was supposed to be a far corner, but here is the thing that's really good about Mitch that people aren't going to notice: His eyes directly told me where to go". He gave Chicago a chance to win.

The Chicago Bears got the Mitchell Trubisky era off on the wrong foot as they fell 20-17 to the Minnesota Vikings Monday night at Soldier Field.

But the final score means very little in the big picture. The Bears are still rebuilding their franchise and will be vying for their second win of the season.

Tough break for the Bears, but hey it was still a great highlight that I'm sure people will be talking about tomorrow morning. They signed Glennon to a significant contract in free agency, then traded up for Trubisky.

Minnesota saw the return of starting quarterback Sam Bradford, but his night went south in a hurry. That's not the right way to operate.

Trubisky played well enough in the preseason to get the No. 2 quarterback job over Mark Sanchez.

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford (8) hands off the ball to running back Latavius Murray (25) during the first half of an NFL football game against the Chicago Bears, Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, in Chicago.

But his debut passed the eye test.

He has poor pocket presence, is immobile and can't throw deep. He showed an ability to move around and improvise reasonably well. He beat his man around the edge and stripped Mitchell Trubisky. The former Pro-Bowler took advantage of a banged up Bears linebacking core and found some room to operate, including his first trip to the end zone this season. They made mistakes. They committed costly penalties.

The day after that game, while explaining his surly postgame news conference in Pittsburgh, coach Mike Zimmer said, "Where I get frustrated, is I want to protect my players".

Even so, Trubisky had moments of competence. His only highlight was a wacky touchdown in which Andrew Sendejo tipped the ball up in the air and Miller came down with it in the end zone. But here's a thing that definitely happened: A fantastic trick play for a two-point conversion.

Trubisky's lack of experience was exposed late in the game when he threw an interception to Harrison Smith on a 1st-and-10 at his own 10-yard line with 2:32 left in the game.

Forbath booted a 26-yard field goal with 12 seconds remaining to lift the Vikings to victory.

The Vikings should have won this game. I think he did everything he could for us to win that game.

Vikings quarterback Case Keenum came off the bench to complete 17 of 21 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown. The Bears offense committed six penalties in the game's first 20 minutes, including a holding infraction on receiver Markus Wheaton that nullified Jordan Howard's 42-yard touchdown run.
