All Whites to play Peru for World Cup berth

All Whites to play Peru for World Cup berth

New Zealand Football and Peru have consensus over the dates for their intercontinental World Cup qualifier.

The Chileans lost to Brazil 3-0 and needed Colombia to beat Peru to secure their place in Russian Federation.

Argentina qualified for the World Cup courtesy Lionel Messi's hat-trick against Ecuador.

Of those sides, Peru was the weakest on paper and had the dimmest aura.

He told reporters after the game: "We knew what was happening in the other matches, we were playing with [the knowledge of] the other results and in that moment [I tried] to transmit that".

"Whoever we get, it's a tough game, very tough", Hudson said.

A 1-1 stalemate in the final round of CONMEBOL fixtures proved to be enough to see Colombia through to next summer's showpiece in Russian Federation, while earning Peru a play-off spot.

Peru coach Argentine Ricardo Gareca admitted in a press conference following the match that the national team found themselves in this position due to mistakes early in the qualifying stages.

"What I can say is that this team will never give up". Los Incas will now have to face off against New Zealand over two legs between November 6 and 14.

Elsewhere, Chile fell out of World Cup contention - despite their status as back-to-back South American champions - with a ruinous 3-0 loss to Brazil. We know we can compete with anyone.

However, one viewer dismissed the speculation as ridiculous, saying: "Both teams were fighting to win it until injury time and Brazil went 3-0 up in the other match".

Facing Colombia in the South America group's final qualifying matches, the opponents scored first. The indirect free kick caught the fingertips of Colombian goal keeper David Ospina on its way in and despite protests from the Colombian team, the goal stood.
