Amazon Alexa gets a vital Skill missing since day one

It got quite a lot of attention, not just because of the inane usefulness, but because it represented a major leg up on the Amazon Echo and Alexa.

Amazon's (NASDAQ:AMZN) now has voice recognition that can allow an Echo device to differentiate between members of a household. You'll have to repeat ten sentences over to train Alexa that it's your voice.

To get started, head on over to the Alexa app and select the "Your Voice" option.

To set it up, you'll need to navigate to the "Your Voice" section of the Alexa app's settings, then follow Amazon's instructions (you can also find an instructional video here).

At launch, personalized results will be available for shopping with Amazon, news flash briefings, Amazon Music Unlimited account holders, and calls and messages.

"Once you set up the feature, Alexa will learn your voice (versus your spouse/partner/roommate's voice) and be able to deliver a more personalized experience", a company spokesperson told The Verge. Prior to the introduction of voice profiles, voice training in the Alexa app simply taught the AI assistant to improve recognition.

It's the latest development in the back-and-forth battle between Alexa and the Google Assistant, each one working to one-up the other with new features as they fight to earn a place in your home.

When shopping, voice recognition will make it easier to make secure purchases. About a year later, though, I think it's safe to say Google has turned the tables.
