Arrest warrant out for Pakistani politician Imran Khan

The money was later sent to Pakistan through supposedly illegal channels, which the popular politician then allegedly concealed in his annual audit reports submitted to the commission.

PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi in his petition submitted on Thursday requested the Supreme Court (SC) not to consider the documents recently submitted by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan in the ongoing disqualification case.

In the hearing headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) retired Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza, the ECP suspended proceedings as soon as they began and the members reconvened in the chambers.

The federal minister's statement came following ECP's issuance of non-bailable warrants against Khan for repeatedly failing to appear before the commission in contempt of court case.

Talking to media, Aziz apprised that Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had categorically stated that the concerned authorities will arrest Khan following ECP orders directing issuance of his arrest warrants. He further argued that the high court is going to hear a petition on the ECP's powers in connection with contempt of court hearings, DAWN reported.

"We have chose to challenge the ECP order today because it is illegal and the commission has no jurisdiction to issue any arrest warrants for a political leader", Khan's spokesman Naeemul Haq told Anadolu Agency.

During the meeting, the ECP made a decision to issue non-bailable warrants for Khan.

However, the PTI approached the IHC which, on September 20, suspended the bailable arrest warrants.

Babar is also one of the founding members of the PTI.
