We deserved a result v Colombia, says India's Jeakson Singh

Navi Mumbai: Title contenders United States of America would like to keep their all-win record intact against a desperate Colombia, who are unlikely to settle for anything less than a victory in a group A encounter of the Federation Internationale de Football Association U-17 World Cup, here today.

Technically, the Indian colts could still qualify for the next stage of the U-17 World Cup, given a win against Ghana and courtesy other results going their favour. They can qualify as the third team even if they fail to beat Ghana by the required margin, but it will be a long shot for Portuguese coach Luis Norton De Matos' boys. Still, they will be looking to keep their chances of reaching the knockout stages alive when they face a physical Ghana in the final Group A match here on Thursday.

"Ghana are possibly the strongest team in the group and our biggest challenge will be to stop their two wingers from making those risky runs into the box". But irrespective of playing against Ghana, we shouldn't go into the match with a purely defensive mind set.

How do I watch India vs Ghana FIFA U-17 World Cup match live? "We would have to be on our toes for the entirety of the match, if we are to secure a win", he added. With the expectations now rising, de Matos and his boys would be aiming to show that the performance against Colombia was no fluke and they were worthy competitors in this global showpiece, where they were automatic qualifiers as hosts.

The celebration of India's first ever FIFA World Cup goal did not last long as Peneloza timed his run to perfection and scored the victor for Colombia in the very next minute.

Referring to his rapport with the teenagers, Hackworth said: "This team, in particular, has been one of those which you just never want to let go". They also have equally strong side with good defenders and attackers. But we are ready and prepared. The pressure is on Colombia to defeat USA and ensure that they finish with six points.

"It was a nice experience and I felt on cloud nine when I scored the goal, however we tried our best but were unlucky".

Jeakson Thounaojam etched his name in India's football history in the 82nd minute when he headed in off a corner to become the first Indian to score at a FIFA World Cup at any age group. Thanking the fans for their support, Sanjeev Stalin said, "We play for the fans, they are our everything and we thank them for the wonderful support that they have given us". And the next game for us is Ghana.

Goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem has been the star performer for India so far. "Their first match was not so good, but in the second match, they did very well". We won't disappoint them.
