Zuckerberg Introduced new $199 Oculus Go

While this is a standalone product, Facebook shared that content created for the Gear VR apps are binary compatible.

Oculus also announced an Oculus for Business bundle yesterday, which will include a Rift headset, Touch controllers, three sensors and three face sponges, as well as dedicated customer support and special extended licenses and warranties to set up the headset.

"This is a great opportunity-not only for businesses, but for the long-term viability of VR". That's a big drop from the Rift, which originally sold for $599 and required a PC costing at least $500 to become immersed in virtual reality, or VR.

The new Oculus Go device will start shipping to developers in November to enable them to start building apps. So, have you been using the Oculus or any other VR headset? or you are waiting for the price cut, which makes it more affordable? probably, this will be the lowest price tag that the Oculus is being offered. "The problem is you will be spending that money on a device that only does VR and nothing else". It also includes built-in speakers that provide spatial audio, along with a standard 3.5mm headphone jack.

Mr. Zuckerberg, though, remains convinced that VR will evolve into a technology that reshapes the way people interact and experience life, much like Facebook's social networks and smartphones already have.

As for technical specifications, the announcement doesn't explain much. "Without a cable or the need for a mobile phone, standalone headsets represent a totally new phase of VR hardware", the company said on Wednesday. According to market research firm Canalys, Facebook sold fewer than 400,000 units of the Oculus Rift past year, making it less popular than the competing HTC Vive and Sony PlayStation VR, the latter of which has already shipped more than 1 million units.

In the United Kingdom, some hospices caring for end-of-life patients with terminal illnesses are experimenting with VR headsets to transport their patients back to familiar areas and give them relief from the walls of healthcare units, and in a recent interview, Facebook CTO Mike Schroepfer said the technology may also one day be applied to air travel, "because it's way better than the back-of-the-seat monitor or my phone". In the future, we'll open up new possibilities for community and co-presence, letting you hang out, play, and explore with others.

Facebook has shaken up Oculus management team since then in a series of moves that included the departure of founder Palmer Luckey earlier this year.

In addition to the Oculus Go reveal, Facebook's head of VR Hugo Barra provided an update on Project Santa Cruz, Facebook's prototype movement-tracking standalone headset.

Upgrades for Oculus Avatars was also introduced in the conference. The upcoming app called Venues will allow people to "watch live concerts, live sports, and premieres of movies and TV shows, all around the world with friends", Zuckerberg said.
