Dragon Age Creative Director Leaves BioWare

Mike Laidlaw, the creative director on BioWare's Dragon Age series, has left the studio. He's worked on games like Jade Empire, Mass Effect, Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, and the aforementioned Dragon Age series, and many thought he was helming the all-but-announced fourth game in the main Dragon Age series.

Here's the official reason why, BioWare fans ... straight from Mike Laidlaw's Twitter:"It's with a mix of emotions that I'm announcing my time with BioWare has ended". So after 14 years of hard work and a sack on his back with a lot of successful titles, Laidlaw has made a decision to step off the directing for BioWare and go back to what we all want to do at some point, play the game.

The creative director announced his departure on Twitter (below), saying that he going to be "reconnecting with all the fantastic games and worlds that my peer have created", and he will be sharing these on Twitter and Twitch.

To everyone who's taken the time to share feedback and experiences, your incredible cosplays and artistic creations: thank you. Your passion inspires and I look forward to our next adventure together.

He was lead designer of the first two Dragon Age games before taking the mantle of creative director for Inquisition.

The BioWare community says a tearful goodbye to the man behind some of the most iconic franchises in gaming history.

Dragon Age Inquisition on Xbox One is pretty awesome.

Laidlaw was nominated for a 2010 BAFTA Games Award for Best Story in Dragon Age: Origins along with Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk.
