Elderly man dies after being tied up, robbed during home invasion

Waldiman Thompson died and his 100-year-old wife was hospitalized during a home invasion in Bed-Stuy, police said.

"Whoever did this deserves to be punished really hard", Waldiman's niece Karlene Grose said, according to the News. When can I see him?

The men tied Waldiman up by his arms and legs along with Ethlin, however she was able to break free and ran screaming from her home after the thieves left and called 911.

The criminals approached Ethlin Thompson from behind, threw a blanket over her head and tied her up with a cord, the Post said.

They rummaged through the home and fled. They say they're waiting for Mrs. Thompson to be released from the hospital so they can return to the home to determine what, if anything, was stolen.

Investigators said they are looking for four male suspects and watching surveillance footage for clues.

"At this time we are treating this incident as a home invasion robbery/homicide", Chief Kemper said. There were no signs of forced entry. "I was shocked when I got home and heard", neighbor Paula Samaroo told DNAInfo. "I am suspicious because my stepmother would always lock the doors when anyone would leave the house".

"I thought it was a gunshot initially". She arrived home Thursday evening with a police escort.

The couple owns the building and collects rent from tenants. Waldiman was found unresponsive later on.

He said he tried to persuade his father and stepmother to move closer to him in Tamarac, FL.

'He came to see his sister because my mom is critically ill and he wanted to see her before she died, and now he died before her, ' Grose told NY1.

He also added that Ethlin had mentioned that she had lost the key to her lockbox and was planning to call a locksmith.

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the case.

It's possible the attackers knew the couple, according to the News.
