Mum jailed for not vaccinating son is outraged he's been immunised

Rebecca Bredow, 40, lost primary custody of her son after she was jailed for refusing to vaccinate him.

Rebecca Bredow was last week sentenced for contempt of court almost a year after an Oakland County judge ordered her to have her nine-year-old son vaccinated. After she defied the judge's order, she served a five-day jail term, according to U.S.A. Today.

Her ex-husband, who wanted his son vaccinated, went to the judge after Bredow would not vaccinate the boy. The judge also granted temporary custody to Horne and ordered the boy to be vaccinated. A small group of supporters gathered outside the courthouse, waving signs reading "freedom is not force" and comparing the fight against vaccines to the pro-choice movement.

Bredow said that she could not bring herself to order the shots, while her attorney Vitale said that the pleadings McDonald referred to were filed in error by a previous attorney and that Bredow had never meant to consent to the vaccinations. "It's been a rough few days to say the least".

Bredow says she did this and that she and Horne had an agreement when their son was born to delay his vaccine schedule for three months.

When asked if the experience of going to jail was worth it in the end, especially given the outcome, the mother-of-two said she still stands by her anti-vaxx stance.

Bredow told reporters Wednesday she was "in shock" by the court's decision.

Her attorney, Steven Vitale, claims the case is about more than just vaccinations.

Bredow said it was "against her beliefs" to vaccinate her children. She told the Press that being in jail was "horrific" but "I still stand by my choices because I stand up for what I believe in".

Judge Karen McDonald said the boy had two parents and "dad gets a say". "Even if you agree to them, which you did".
