Question of corruption doesn't arise in Jay's company: Amit Shah

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah on Friday came to the defence of his son Jay Shah, who is at the centre of a political storm following a media expose questioning his business dealings. "If a company's turn over becomes Rs 1 crore, its profit does not become Rs 1 crore", Amit Shah said at Panchayat Aaj Tak. This company is completely in commodity business, where turnover is more while the profit is less.

The BJP government in the state is the best financially managed government and had brought down the financial liability from Rs 4,000-crore created by the previous Congress regime to Rs 2,500 crore, he said and asked the Congress not to worry about special packages so early. "The figure in question is turnover not profit".

He also refuted allegations of money laundering and said all payments were made by cheque. "There is no question of money laundering", Amit Shah added. He was referring to a report in the news portal The Wire, which claimed that Jay's business fortunes zoomed after the BJP came to power in 2014. The BJP has strongly refuted the allegations against Jay Shah.

"Even after facing so many corruption charges, Congress never filed a defamation suit but Jay has filed one..."

Speaking to reporters in Bhopal, RSS joint general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale said: "If there are corruption allegations against anyone, they should be investigated. We don't take umbrage in falsehood as the Congress is known to do". "They (Opposition) are saying that the turnover of the company was Rs 80 crore, but they are not showing that it incurred a loss of Rs 1.5 crore. Isn't it surprising? And suddenly after a change in the government". In his application, Shah sought, "criminal action against the respondents for defaming and tarnishing the reputation of the complainant through an article, which is scandalous, frivolous, misleading, derogatory, libelous and consisting of several defamatory statements".

Attacking the PM, Gandhi tweeted: "Modi, Jai Shah-ate ' exceeds '.Were you the Watchmen or the partner?"
